Course Description

The goal of this course is to provide the pharmacist with knowledge of immunology, the epidemiology of vaccine-preventable diseases, indications for vaccination and implementation and maintenance of a pharmacy-based immunization program to make immunization delivery a part of your pharmacy practice.  Each participant must complete and pass the home study module prior to the start of the formal course. Please see individual program brochures for meeting schedules.  The course will include lectures covering important aspects of immunization immunology, epidemiology of vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccines in development, indications for vaccination, immunization protocol development, emergency procedures, marketing, vaccine storage and handling and vaccine information sources and retrieval. In addition, record keeping, vaccine administration techniques and reimbursement topics will be covered. A laboratory exercise will be conducted on Day 2 for participants to gain experience with injection techniques. The course will conclude with the administration of the final written examination.

The live training program will be held at Promega in Madison and at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. A map will be mailed with your meeting materials.

CEU Credit
The Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program offers a total of 1.8 CEUs (18 contact hours). Participants attending the entire program, scoring at least 70% on the home-study and final exam, and demonstrating good vaccine administration technique, will be mailed CE statements within four to six weeks of program completion. ACPE Universal Program Number: 0175-0000-11-071-C01-P. Initial release date: 02/04/2011. Important: Participants must be certified in CPR** prior to or within 30 days after completion of the program.

Cancellations
A full refund less a $75 administrative fee will be provided for cancellations received prior to the registration deadline. Full registration includes all program materials, meals, and breaks on both days.  Please see individual program brochures for details.
